Street I walked on Friday,July 25,2025

 On Friday,July 25,2025,,I walked on Beaumont Avenue from Avenue du Parc to Birham Avenue.Along the way I passed rue Hutchison,Durocher, Avenue Querbes, Avenue de L'Epee,Bloomingfield Avenue,Outremont Avenue and Birham Avenue.At Birnam Avenue i walked into Acadie metro and took the metro to get off at Parc metro.At Parc metro I took the 80 bus to go home.

          I had rarely walked on this stretch of Beaumont Avenue before.This walk was eye-opening in a way.

 Famous psychiatrist Thomas Szasz sadly died by suicide at the age of 92.He ended his own life on September 8,2012 at home in Manlius,New York after suffering a spinal compression fracture from a fall.

Psychologist who was supposed to be an expert on happiness committed suicide

 On May 13,1982, noted psychologist Philip Brickman committed suicide at the age of only 38,by making his way on to the roof of Tower Plaza,the tallest building in Ann Arbor ,and jumping to his death.It was a 26-storey fall.

         The man who'd done one of psychology's foundational studies about happiness couldn't make his own pain go away and killed himself.

 On Saturday,July 19,2025,I got off at Edouard Montpetit metro.Then I walked along the entire length of Perham Avenue,which runs parallel to Boulevard Edouard Montpetit and is south of Edouard Montpetit.Then I walked south on Vincent d'Indy Avenue to Willowdale Avenue and walked a bit on Willowdale Avenue.

          Finally I took the 51 bus on Boulevard Edouard Montpetit that dropped me off on Laurier Avenue at the corner of Parc Avenue.

   I covered a fair bit of western Outremont by foot.This part of Outremont has a lot of stately mansions and opulent homes.

Connie Francis and her many struggles

 Singer Connie Francis very sadly died in July 2025 at the age of 87.Her later years were filled with struggle.

        Connie Francis was involuntarily committed 17 times to mental institutions over a period of nine years in the 1980s,across five different states.She was initially misdiagnosed with various conditions like manic depression,ADD and ADHD before diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

        The trauma that led to her PTSD stemmed from a series of difficult events in her life.She was raped at knife point in a motel in New York .In  1981 her brother George Franconero Jr. to whom she was very close was murdered by mafia hitmen.George was an attorney who had testified against mob activity and refused witness protection.She also had a botched surgery that impacted her singing voice.

       The father of Connie Francis died in 1996 and after that she moved to Florida.

 Kathryn Faughey was a 56 year-old New York city psychologist who was murdered by 39 year-old David Tarloff at her upper East side office on the night of February 12,2008.

My appreciation of sumac powder

 As a vegetarian I have been using sumac powder in my cooking on and off for a while now.Lately I have grown to love sumac powder more and more.

           Recently I made a stew with spinach and potatoes.I stir-fried boiled potatoes and chopped spinach in canola oil with a dash of curry powder,a pinch of salt and a bit of sumac powder.I then ate the spinach and potato stew with Greek bread.The sumac powder certainly did impart a tart,lemony,vibrant flavor to the spinach and potato stew ,making it taste delicious.

The uses of sumac powder

 Sumac powder,made from dried and ground sumac berries,is primarily used as a vibrant,tart spice in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean  cuisines.It adds a lemony,slightly fruity ,and tangy flavor to various dishes.

      It is a popular ingredient in meat runs,marinades,and is excellent on grilled or roasted meats and vegetables.Sumac is a fundamental blend in Zaatar,a classic Middle Eastern spice blend.
