William Ernest Hocking quote that I like

My favorite brand of olive oil
I have been using olive oil for more than 6 years and I have tried several different brands-Bertolli,Italpasta,Aurora,Efas,Mastro,etc.All of them are good.
But the olive oil that I found the best was from Rusinella-it was so good I could drink a glass of it. in one gulp.Rusinella is an Italian olive oil brand and it has superior taste.

Grand Funk Railroad remake
I just heard a remake of the song 'Some Kind of Wonderful'by Sky on Montreal radio. It is good, but the original by Grand Funk Railroad is far better.I would like to hear the original version more often than the Sky remake.
Overplayed song on Montreal radio
I find Gloria Gaynor's song 'Never Can Say Goodbye' gets too much airplay on different Montreal radio stations. It is a classic, but I have heard it too many times and it is not one of my favorite disco-era songs.I love Patrick Hernandez's song 'Born To Be Alive' very much, which only gets played on radio occasionally.
Two proverbs that seem to be wise

Lost Lionel Barry more film
The Eternal City(1923)is a lost silent film starring LIonel Barrymore,Ronald Colman and the great Betty Bronson. No copies of this film are known to exist anywhere in the world.I hope the film
is rediscovered somewhere in some foreign archives.Hope so.Hope so very much.

John Stuart Mill quote that is good
Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservative.-John Stuart Mill.

The Los Angeles Times is making a colossal mistake in dropping Robert Scheer as a columnist from its op-ed page.Scheer is opinionated, leftist and spunky-he counters rightwing propaganda too effectively.Without Scheer, the calibre of the LA Times op-ed page
will decline.
Incidentally,as a Montrealer,I also happen to think The
Los Angeles Times is a better newspaper than the mighty New York Times,in several ways.

Quote for Armistice Day I found in Michael Kesterton's column social studies in The Globe And Mail,November 11,2005
There are no warlike peoples-just warlike leaders.-Ralp Bunche quote
John King quote
Seductive congestion:It's what the best cities are all about.-John King.
I could substitute congestion for pollution, though.

Preserve the Ambassador Hotel for sure
The famous Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles is slated for demolition in the future and the city has given the go-ahead for its demolition. But the Hotel(at least the main building)must be preserved forever. The rest of the site could be used for schooling children. After many years of wrangling between conservationists and the city, the conservationists lost.Still, somehow conservationists must find a way to preserve the hotel. This hotel means much more to Los Angeles than the notoriety it achieved for being the site of Robert Kennedy's assassination in 1968.
I also think the Cook County Hospital in Chicago must be preserved and that The Twin Towers in New York must be rebuilt.

Bahais in Iran face discrimination in education
Since the 1979 Islamic revolution,Bahais in Iran have been forbidden from attending university unless they deny their faith. The government crackdown on Bahais in Iran is well-known-----but the discrimination they face in education is astounding. The Iranian government has also blocked off attempts by the Bahais to establish their own centres of higher learning.Sad.
More quotes that make me think-
1.Nobody was ever meant to remember or invent what he did with every cent.-Robert Frost.

First day of writing
My first day of writing this blog has been fun.I find writing very cathartic.Writing on obscure topics or unleashing pent-up emotions through the written word is its own reward sometimes.
I often skip from topic to topic without any particular reason(perhaps to amuse myself),but am capable of focusing on one issue for long,if the need arises.
Topic-jumping prevents boredom. Many of us know how analysing too much leads to analysis paralysis. And I do not need analysis paralysis all the time.

Derek Jackson of the Boston Globe
Derek Jackson ,an op-ed columnist for The Boston Globe,is very gifted and writes very insightfully.Sadly he is not quoted in any major quotation reference books. But his colleague from the Globe,long-time columnist Ellen Goodman is often quoted in quotation reference books.I hope the passage of time will enable quotation book publishers will include the quotes of Derek Jackson while compiling or updating reference books on quotes.Derek Jackson need not be overlooked because he is black and/or leftist.
Seemingly lost -forever Clara Bow film
I am a big fan of old films, including silent films. That does not mean I do not like to watch new films, however.I enjoy both.
I find it very sad and massively heart-breaking that some 70 to 80% of silent films made before 1930 are lost forever-----and no copies of them are known to exist anywhere.Occasionally,long-lost silent films turn up in private film collections and in foreign film archives, like the Gosfilmofondin Russia.
I would love to watch the 1924 silent film GRIT starring Clara Bow.It was a hit that year and the movie was based on a
book by Francis Scott Fitzgerald. The film is presumed lost-----no copy of it is known to exist anywhere.I hope the search for this fascinating movie
is intensified and that it is rediscovered.Any movie based on Francis Scott Fitzgerald's work ought to be archived in many places.

Another two favorite quotes
My blog is brand new and I am not being very coherent, but I am just at an experimental stage now.I hope to make it more interesting as
time goes on.Here are two other quotes I like.
1.We must free ourselves of the hope that the sea will ever rest.We
must learn to sail in high winds.-Hanmer Parsons Grant.
2.Even a hunter can not kill a bird which flies to him for refuge.
-Samurai proverb.

slantedbuttrue: slantedbut true
I strongly recommend progressive people read the book 'Ecotopia' by Ernest Callenbach.
slantedbut true
I have created this blog to share my own outlook on political and social issues as well as environmental and animal rights issues.I also would like to share unusual trivia, quotes, and obscure song lyrics.
I like to focus on many issues that the mainstream media overlook or underemphasize.I am very interested in promoting conservation of old films, and preservation
of heritage buildings everywhere.
To start with,I would like to post a favorite Carl Jung quote:''Any attempt to create a spiritual attitude by splitting off and suppressing the instincts is a falsification.Nothing is more repulsive than a furtively prurient spirituality;it is just as unsavory
as gross sensuality---Both(spirituality and sensuality)must live, each drawing life from the other.''
I am uncomfortable with very prurient people in many instances.Hence the quote.
