Wild boars in Rome

There are around 2.3 million wild boars in Italy in May 2022,with around 20,000 in the area of Rome.A wild boar can weigh up to 200 pounds.

A growing problem has become an acute worry as wild boars proliferate in the garbage-strewn streets of Rome. The problem is now so bad that the city has banned picnics and imposed curfews after residents were attacked.Swine fever(fortunately harmless to humans) is running rampant among the boar population, and officials have prolonged the hunting season to try and control it-but with tourists about to descend on Rome in record numbers,it's hard to see how this problem will go away.

Packs of dozens of wild boars roam the outskirts of Rome with impunity.Rome is a green town plagued by piles of garbage, sprawling over green rolling hills;the green rolling hills provide urban hogs wildlife sanctuaries next to an endless food supply:the city's abundant garbage. An outbreak of swine fever  has reduced the wild boar population  around Rome in 2022.An outbreak of the swine flu collapses the population of wild boars from time to time.  -John Last.PRI,THE WORLD,June 2,2022
