Charity thrift stores sending a lot of donations to the landfill

 Charity thrift stores in Canada get buried in piles of donated clothes; donations keep coming.There are higher donation volumes of clothes.

       But in 2025 and 2026 too many Charity thrift stores are not able to offload their surplus stock,and hence more and more used clothes are being sent to the landfill.With a gentle thud a pile of clothes often lands in a dumpster behind a thrift shop.

          There are too many clothes being generated because of fast fashion.We need to turn off the tap and stop manufacturing so many cheap clothes in the first place.

      Used clothes is a low-value commodity.Poorer countries also do not want to be overwhelmed with massive imports of cheap used clothes either.

      People need to buy fewer new clothes in Canada but buy quality garments and use them longer.
