Yellow toadflax
Yellow toadflax (Linaria vulgaris) is also known as " butter-and eggs."This resilient, Snapdragon-like flower was introduced from Europe as an ornamental plant over a century ago and has since naturalized wildly.
It is common in and around Montreal. You can spot it frequently growing in disturbed areas, railway embankments, vacant lots and along roadsides throughout the island of Montreal.
While it is pretty,it is considered an aggressive, invasive weed that can crowd out native plant species.Because it spreads through an extensive, creeping root system,it is difficult to eradicate once established.
I spotted yellow toadflax on rue Notre Dame east at the corner of rue Bossuet in Montreal on June 24,2026,photographed it and posted in the Facebook group Montreal Then And Now.
