This Danish navigator died of scurvy

 Virus Bering,the famed Danish navigator and cartographer(namesake of the Bering Sea and the Bering Strait) died of scurvy in 1741 alongside many of his crew while shipwrecked on an uninhabited island off the coast of Kamchatka.
