The dangers of long-term exposure to radon gas

You can't see or smell radon gas.Radon is a toxic gas.Radon is naturally released from the ground as soil and rocks break down;radon can build up in closed spaces like basements of houses. When you breathe in radon gas,it can break down into radioactive particles.

Many Canadians live in homes that have high levels of radon.

According to reports released in 2025, long-term exposure to radon gas is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.

Homes can at least have a radon detector or radar monitor installed to measure the level of this potentially dangerous gas.
