Cassowary killed a man in Florida

 A cassowary,a large emu-like flightless bird,killed a man in Gainesville,Florida in April 2019.The man killed was 75 year-old Marvin Hajos;he was the owner of the pet bird and the farm where the attack occurred.

            Marvin Hajos was in the vicinity of the bird and fell between two cassowary pens.When he fell,he was attacked by a cassowary.

            Mr.Hajos was rushed to the hospital and died later in hospital.An autopsy revealed the bird severed an artery in his arm.

       Mr.Hajos had kept exotic animals, including llamas for decades.

             Cassowary are among the largest and heaviest bird species in the world and can weigh more than 100lb.The birds can run up to 30mph and have a five-inch claw on each foot.

             Cassowaries are large, flightless birds native to northern Australia and New Guinea,standing up to 6 feet tall.While generally shy in the wild, cassowaries can be very aggressive if provoked,cornered,or if they expect to be fed by humans.Attacks most often happen when the birds are defending themselves,their food ,or their offspring.The cassowary can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single swift kick.Powerful legs  help the cassowary run up to 31 miles per hour.
