Psychologist Bruno Bettelheim sadly kills himself
Bruno Bettelheim,a psychologist and prolific author who studied under Sigmund Freud and gained fame for his work with emotionally disturbed children,committed suicide in March 1990 in a Maryland nursing home,a medical examiner said.He was 86.
Maryland's chief medical examiner,Dr.John E.Smialek,said that one of his deputies who examined Bettelheim had determined the cause of death was suicidal asphyxiation.
Bettelheim was born August 28,1903 in Vienna,Austria.He was educated in Vienna,where he studied under Freud,the famous psychoanalyst.
In 1938,the Nazis arrested Bettelheim,a Jew,and then sent him to the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps.He was released in 1939 and came to the United States.He gained early fame for his study of death camp prisoners.
