Microapartments in Tokyo
In Tokyo,Japan ,affordable rental apartments are rare. And when you do find one, they are small. But given the high prices, young people are willing to move into even smaller spaces-95 square feet homes called shoebox apartments.
A micro apartment in Tokyo is usually packed with basics:a toilet,a shower,a microwave,a minifridge and a washing machine. There is a long tradition of compact living in Japan:people often have portable furniture and they hang or store things on the wall.
Several occupants of microapartments feel claustrophobic inside.-Thisanka Siripala,PRI,The World,February 15,2023.
