Food insecurity

Food insecurity is tied to far worse health outcomes;that can lead to more pressure on our already overburdened health care system; and that can mean an increase in type-2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and poor bone health.

People who struggle to afford healthy food are more likely to turn up in the emergency department;they are at higher risk of staying in hospital longer and being readmitted. They are also more vulnerable to infectious diseases, poor oral health, injuries, chronic conditions like depression and anxiety and chronic pain.

Food inflation needs to be kept in check.
