The changing Madeleine Islands

 Sea ice is disappearing off the Madeleine Islands(Les Iles de Madeleine) of Quebec because of warming temperatures.This sea ice encased and protected the Madeleine Islands in winter.

                                   In the absence of sea ice storms and waves gather more force.Swelling seas are eroding the shorelines of the majestic beaches and crumbling the red rock cliffs.The warming climate threatens homes and livelihoods along the coast.

                                 Some beach homes are being swallowed by the ocean.Sand dunes are being washed away.
